Welcome to the home page for the 2023 Rocky Mountain Debating Championship tournament hosted by University of Denver on Oct 7-8, 2023 for College students.

Status: Tournament Completed

You are cordially invited to the 2023 Rocky Mountain Debating Championship tournament!

The tournament will be held on the campus of the University of Denver and will be co-sponsored by Regis University and Metropolitan State University of Denver. The tournament will take place on October 7-8, with registration on the evening of October 6.

Debate Information
This tournament will host British Parliamentary style debate with YODL rules. This means that we will have topic striking, open adjudication, and in-round points of privilege for equity concerns.

Tournament Contacts
Primary contact: Jeremy David Johnson, jeremy.johnson@du.edu

Secondary contacts: Rob Margesson, rmargess@regis.edu; John Rief, jrief1@msudenver.edu

CA Team: Sammi Rippetoe and Will Reid

Tab: Shawn Briscoe, sfbriscoe@alaska.edu

Registration Deadline
All entries must be submitted by 11:59pm Mountain Time on Tuesday, October 3. Registration is available on ForensicsTournament.net (link here).

Entries and Fees
This tournament will not require entry fees. This means that all of your slots must be covered. We will not have hired judges available. We will drop uncovered teams after the registration deadline.

We will operate with an N-1 calculation for judges. Schools with only one team should still supply a judge if possible (please contact Jeremy if this is not possible).

Location Information
Registration location will be announced in advance of the tournament.

All other tournament events will take place in Sturm Hall: 2000 E Asbury Ave, Denver, CO 80210.

Food
As this is a no-fee tournament, we will have limited food available at the tournament. Please be sure to get breakfast prior to coming to campus. We are building in an hour and a half for lunch each day. There are many food options within a few minutes’ walk of Sturm Hall.

Lodging
There are no hotels immediately near campus, so we recommend you find a hotel near a light rail station (E or H line) and take the light rail to campus. Here are a few such options:

Fairfield Inn & Suites Cherry Creek

Denver Marriot Tech Center (or other hotels near the Denver Tech Center, along the E line)

AC Hotel Downtown Denver (or other hotels near the Convention Center, along the H line)

Getting to Campus

Sturm Hall is just under half a mile from the University of Denver light rail station. The light rail station services the E and H light rail lines. The walk from the station is through the campus.

Parking is primarily paid parking on campus. If you plan on driving to campus, please contact Jeremy about parking options.
