2026 Great Salt Lake Invitational & UTEP Individual Events Classic

 

On behalf of the University of Utah and The University of Texas at El Paso, we invite you to return to the Mountain West for the Great Salt Lake Invitational/UTEP IE Classic at the University of Utah.

This year we will offer a JV policy debate round robin, two complete IE tournaments, and two five round NPDA tournaments.

The tournaments will be held on January 16-18, 2026. See Part IX of the invitation for schedule details.

This year’s schedule has been revised to maximize forensics participation across the curriculum of events and styles.

We look forward to seeing you in January and wish everyone the best of luck and safety in the upcoming competitive season.

The debate tournaments will be run on Tabroom https://www.tabroom.com/index/tourn/index.mhtml?tourn_id=37762 The IE swing will be run on Forensics Tournament.

Flights A & B are for Friday competition in the GSL half. Flights C&D are for Saturday competition in the UTEP half of the speech swing.

Tournament Details 

Important Locations: 

Registration - GC 3640

Friday Extemp Draw & Meals - GC 2880 (round 1 draw @12:45 pm)

Saturday Extemp Draw & Meals - GC 1900 

 

Parking:

Unfortunately, parking is NOT free on campus on Friday. The closest lot is the pay lot located in front of the Ray Olpin Student Union building. This is also directly in front of the Gardner Commons building (tournament HQ). The machines accept credit card payment. 

Fortunately, all parking is free on Saturday and Sunday EXCEPT in individual parking stalls labeled as reserved 24/7. The pay lot IS free on Saturday and Sunday, even though it doesn't appear as such. 

 

Meals: 

Meals will be provided according to the invitation for registered judges and competitors. Gluten-free and vegetarian options will be available. This includes the following: 

Friday - Dinner (All Friday competitors and judges)

Saturday - Lunch (All Saturday competitors and judges) 

Saturday - Dinner (NPDA competitors and judges) 

Sunday - Lunch & Dinner 

Coffee will be available throughout the tournament in GC 1900. Vending machines are available in the Gardner Commons building.

 

Payment Options: 

Fees can be paid through FTN, via check, or through our online payment portal (which does not charge a processing fee). Schools competing in speech and NPDA will have their NPDA fees from Tabroom added to their FTN total for ease of payment.
