Columbia Falls Invitational Speech, Debate, & Drama Tournament

Dear Coaches:

You are cordially invited to attend the Columbia Falls Invitational Speech/Debate/Drama Tournament on Saturday, November 23, 2019.

Entry Deadline: Initial registration must be completed online no later than November 7, 2019 by 5:00 pm at https://forensicstournament.net/ColumbiaFalls/19 . After Nov 7, the Forensic Tournament site will be set to no new schools. Additions will be closed on Nov 13. Drops will be closed on Nov 21 (Thursday) so that we may begin sectioning events and finalize rooms and judges. Drops after this time should go to Tara Norick at tnorick@gmail.com.

Entries:  I anticipate that this will be a large meet and we are limited by space. I will use every room in the buildings to allow as many competitors as possible to attend, but JV spots are not guaranteed. Enter your entire team on forensics tournament.net. You are guaranteed 3 competitors per event and I will notify you of the status of your JV entries on Nov 14 or earlier.

Entry Fees: Entry fee will be $5.00 per competitor in each event registered as of Nov 21 plus a $10 team fee. All registration will be online and check-in will take place through email. Drop fee of $20 on the day of the tournament.

Rules: MHSA rules for State Class A Competitions will be followed. Debate rounds 1 and 2 will be pre-paired and rounds 3-4 will be paired based on the previous round. Comment Sheets may be printed on small (8.5 x 11) paper.

Debate topics are as indicated in the MHSA Handbook.

Policy: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially reduce Direct Commercial Sales and/or Foreign Military Sales of arms from the United States.

LD: Resolved: In the United States, colleges and universities ought not consider standardized tests in undergraduate admissions decisions.

PF: Resolved: The European Union should join the Belt and Road Initiative.

Registration: Registration will be handled online. You will be emailed your entry sheets with codes, maps, and other information on Friday. Please check your registration carefully and notify me immediately of any changes. Invoices will be emailed following the tournament.

PLEASE CALL OR TEXT IN ANY CHANGES FROM THE BUS TO TARA NORICK AT (406) 249-6177.  PLEASE DO NOT LEAVE VOICEMAIL.

Shuttle for Coaches: We will provide a shuttle for coaches to go between schools or into town if needed so bus drivers can have the time off during the tournament. Shuttle will be available 9-3.

Concessions: There will be a food truck at each school. Meals will be provided for all coaches and drivers.

Tournament Conduct: We ask that students use designated common areas between rounds, keep out of the hallways during competitions, remain quiet during passing from room to room during rounds, and respect the facilities and tournament supervisors. Remind students not to write on Smart Boards or touch any computer equipment in the classrooms.

Tournament Schedule: Rounds will be at Columbia Falls High School (Speech) and Columbia Falls Junior High (Debate and Drama).
