Hi all, excited to get this tournament started!
A couple key notes for tomorrow:
-
IPDA will be central strike in Salon E on the 1st floor. Extemp prep will also be in the same room.
-
Please pick up your eballots as soon as you receive them. You will need to pick up room keys at the judges table in Hidden Hills on the 1st floor (by the main hotel entrance), and return them after your round is done.
-
If you have competition rooms, you will need to be out of the room by 7:30 am. Additionally, you will not need to surrender keys in the morning! Please have students and judges keep their keys to use the elevators.
-
Please see the splash page on FTN to see the speaker point rankings for debate! They will be out of 30.
-
For NFA-LD, since we only have 4 rounds, round 1 will now be at 1:15pm (the original round 3 time). Basically, we have shifted the LD rounds to run during the last 4 rounds. The schedule has been updated on the invite!
If you have any other questions, feel free to text me at 714-553-0260.
Thanks so much, everyone. Let’s have an amazing State!

Speaker Points in Debate
Speaker points are intended to evaluate the execution of communication and strategy for individual competitors in a debate round. Please refer to the following rubric to determine what speaker point ranges align with community norms of evaluating performance. Should you feel the need to give a speaker exceptionally low points relative to this rubric, please be sure to explain why on your ballot.
29 - 30: Excellent
27 - 28: Above Average
25 - 26: Average
23 - 24: Below Average
21 - 22: Needs Significant Improvement
Some FAQs:
Q: Is Electronic Flowing allowed in Parliamentary Debate?
Yes, CCCFA follows NPDA rules and the current bylaws state that debaters may use materials typed on electronic devices during prep time AND that debaters may communicate in-round written materials to one another (shared flows in-round). YOU MAY NOT USE THE COPY AND PASTE FUNCTION DURING PREP OR THE ROUND.
Q: Did the resolution pass last year that would eliminate metaphor topics from debate?
Yes, it did. So all debate rounds will offer 2 policy, 2 value, and 1 fact topic for strikes.
