Status: Accepting Entries

Phi Rho PI Region IV Tournament Information

March 22-23, 2025 at Prairie State College

RULES: Phi Rho Pi national rules will govern student eligibility, team sweepstakes, individual sweepstakes, and event rules (www.phirhopi.org). Schools are limited to six entries per event.

Students may enter a maximum of four events, but it is their responsibility to arrive at rounds before they are over. It is also the responsibility of the student to sign in to rounds so judges know to wait. Please keep in mind that students enter multiple events in the same pattern at their own risk.

BREAKING

All students who attain a cumulative rank of “7" or lower will automatically advance to the medal rounds in that event.  If this does not represent 20% of the initial field in that event, then all ranks of “8" will also break to the medal rounds. This process will continue until at least 6 students are in the medal round(s)

ADVANCING DEBATE

All winning records in debate will advance.

OTHER SWEEPSTAKES INFORMATION

No more than ½ the field can score team points (even if more than that make the medal rounds).

Team sweepstakes awards will be presented to the top 3 IE teams, the top 3 debate teams and the top six overall schools.

AWARDS

Awards will be presented to all competitors who advance to a medal round. Order of finish will be determined by the cumulative ranks on all ballots. Gold, Silver, and Bronze awards will be divided among all competitors advancing to a medal round.

The Cheri Corey Individual Sweepstakes Award will be presented to the top individual speaker. The sixth through second place overall speakers will also be recognized.

The Don Hagerty Award will be presented to the student in the region who reflects the fellowship qualities we find important in our region. The winner of this award will be determined by a vote of all regional competitors during the tournament.

The Dana Trunnell Outstanding Coach Award will be presented to the fellowship qualities we find important in our region. The winner of this award will be determined by the students of each team (one vote per team). At the 2024 Regional Tournament, we voted to name this award after the most recent recipient so there was a connection between the recipient and the namesake. Since Dana Trunnell won the award in 2024, the award will be named after her in 2025. The 2025 recipient will be the namesake for the 2026 award and so on.

The Governor’s Shout Out Award will be presented to an individual who the current Governor recognizes as particularly deserving based on their efforts during the Regional Tournament and/or throughout the competition year. This award can be awarded to students, coaches, judges, or any other deserving recipient.

TEAM AWARDS
A bronze, silver, and a gold will be awarded to the top Debate Schools
A bronze, silver, and a gold will be awarded to the top IE Schools
2 bronzes, 2 silvers, and 2 golds will be awarded to the top overall Schools (IE + Debate)

Region IV Governor’s Award - This award is a perpetual sweepstakes award that is awarded to the school with the most accumulated points in a given year. The award will be given for the first time at the 2025 Region IV Tournament and will include each team’s 2024 + 2025 points. Each team’s points will continue to accumulate until that team has reached the top of the table, at which point, their points will reset to zero.

JUDGES

Each school must provide one judge for every six individual events slots and one judge for every two IPDA slots. A single judge may cover Parli, IPDA and IE slots as long as the judge is available for all rounds. In other words, if a judge from a school is available the entire time, that judge would cover two Parli teams, two IPDA teams, AND six IE slots.A limited number of hired judges will be available at $15.00 per uncovered slot. Please note: the fee increase for uncovered slots will allow us to attract and pay hired judges according to their skills.

Please, if you are bringing IPDA speakers, provide us with enough judges to cover your slots!!

If you know of any judges who would like to be hired by the tournament, please ask them to fill out their information at this link: Judge Interest Form
