Tournament Logistics & Important Information

Please review the following information before the tournament. Coaches, judges, and competitors are responsible for knowing the procedures that apply to their events.

1. Tournament Headquarters & Contacts

2. Building Abbreviations

• SOCS = Social Science

• BSS = Behavioral and Social Science

• H = Humanities

• MU = Music

3. Parking

Tournament parking should be in Lots J or K.

Daily parking passes are $3 and may be purchased using the QR codes posted in the parking lots.

4. Student Check-In

Parliamentary Debate and IPDA competitors must sign in outside SOCS 117.

Each student must personally sign themselves in.

For Parliamentary Debate, you may not sign in your partner. Each partner must complete their own check-in.

Failure to sign in may result in being dropped from the tournament.

Please make checking in one of your first priorities when you arrive on campus.

6. Postings

Tournament postings will be available online.

Physical copies will also be posted in the first-floor hallways of the Social Science (SOCS) Building.

Competitors and judges should monitor postings throughout the day for pairings, room assignments, and other tournament information.

7. Electronic Ballots

Ballots will be distributed electronically at least 15 minutes before the scheduled round start time.

Judges should make sure their email address and phone number are both verified in FTN before competition begins. Verifying both is strongly recommended in case there is a problem receiving ballots through one method.

Judges should also carefully review all messages and notices attached to their ballot before beginning the round.

8. Judge Training & Judge Room

Judge training will take place in SOCS 120.

SOCS 120 will also serve as the judge room and judge food location throughout the tournament.

9. Parliamentary Debate Topic Announcements

Parliamentary Debate topic announcements will take place outside the doors of the Social Science Building near the stairs on the east side of the building closest to the Music Building.

Parliamentary Debate will use double preparation.

• Rounds 1 & 2 topics will be announced at 10:15 AM.

• Competitors should prepare both sides of the announced topics and be prepared to compete on either side.

• Rounds 3 & 4 topics will be announced at 1:45 PM.

• Competitors should again prepare both sides of the announced topics.

For Rounds 1 and 3, pairings/postings may be released after preparation time has already begun.

There are no designated prep rooms for Parliamentary Debate.

10. IPDA Central Strike

All IPDA strikes will take place in BSS 100.

Although IPDA is using central strike, judges are still expected to access their ballots before the scheduled strike time.

There are no designated prep rooms for IPDA.

11. Extemporaneous Speaking

Extemp draw/strike will take place in SOCS 127.

12. Round Start Times

Judges should not expect competitors to arrive before the official round start time.

Preparation, striking, topic announcements, or postings may occur before the scheduled beginning of the actual round.

13. Parliamentary Debate & IPDA Prep Rules

Coach prep and group prep are not permitted in Parliamentary Debate or IPDA.

Competitors are expected to complete preparation independently or with their debate partner when permitted by the event.

14. Flex Time

Flex time is permitted.

Competitors and judges should follow the tournament's applicable procedures regarding the use of flex time during debate rounds.

15. Electronic Flowing & ADA Accommodations

Electronic flowing is not permitted unless a competitor has an approved accommodation.

Judges must review all notices and messages attached to their ballot before the round.

ADA notices may involve electronic flowing, but they may also include other accommodations that need to be observed during the round.

Please do not assume that an ADA notice relates only to electronic device use.

Students

Student food and the student hangout area will be in SOCS 121.

Dear PSCFA Community,

Welcome to the 2026-2027 forensics season! It is time to get the competition year started at the PSCFA Warm-up at El Camino College on Saturday, September 26th, and Sunday, September the 27th. The tournament will be HQ out of the Social Science building instead of the Music building this year. Parking permits have been reinstated for $3 per day paid in cash at kiosks, but you may park in staff lots.

**Be sure to double-check the invite AFTER the Coaches Conference for potential rule changes.**

KEY POINTS:

• Registration: Entries are due by Tuesday, September 22rd at 6:00 PM on the Forensics Tournament website.
• Judging: Each school must cover its judging commitment (you may only enter uncovered slots if prior tournament approval is granted). All judges must read and sign the PSCFA Judge’s handbook and complete the F.R.E.D. Certification each year. Any judges you wish to pay through the tournament need to be designated as ICC judges when you enter them.
• Direction: El Camino College’s address is 16007 Crenshaw Blvd. Torrance, CA 90506. The tournament headquarters and registration will be in the Social Science building.
• Parking: Attendees should park in Lots J or K (Closest to the Music and Social Science buildings). Parking permits have been reinstated for $3 per day paid in cash at kiosks but you may park in staff lots.
• Tournament Service: On Saturday, the 26th, we will offer four rounds of Open, Junior, and Novice NFA-LD, NPDA and IPDA debate. On Sunday, the 27th, we will offer two rounds of all PSCFA individual events for Open, Junior, and Novice competitors. Divisions may be collapsed due to lack of entries.

New Rules/Policies (2026 Coaches Conference)

• Flex time is returning to parliamentary debate!
• Impromptu: all competitors receive a 15 second reading period upon opening their topics. The reading period is for reading the topics only; competitors should not write notes during this time. The 7 minute speech period begins after the 15 second reading period elapses (unless the competitor begins writing, in which case any remaining reading time is forfeited).
• NFA-LD: judges should refrain from determining the validity/invalidity of evidence based on their preference or local norms regarding evidence formatting.
• Judges: there will be a brief mandatory meeting before the first round each day. The purpose of the meeting is to clarify expectations for writing ballots. Please ensure your judges are present for this meeting. (This does not replace the optional training session offered for new judges).
• Reminder: you can split a judging committment among multiple judges. In your FTN registration, please clearly describe how judges splitting a commitment should be scheduled, e.g., "Judge X is for Rounds 1-2 only;" "Judge Y is for Rounds 3-4 only." For a split commitment to be fully covered, a judge must be scheduled for each round of the day unless an alternative arrangement is approved in advance by the tournament director.
