Greetings Colleagues:
The El Camino forensics coaches and students are pleased to invite you to the Crossman Invitational on the campus of El Camino College. The tournament is open to both two- and four-year schools.
To get your students the maximum experience, NPDA will run from Saturday through early Sunday with 5 prelims, going to true finals. If entries warrant, we will offer 3 divisions. There will be two IPDA tournaments: one Saturday and one Sunday. NFA-LD, and IEs will run Sunday. IPDA and NFA-LD will have 4 prelims in 2 divisions and utilize the bronze/silver/gold format. 11 Individuals Events will have 2 prelims in 2 divisions to finals.
Students can enter NPDA and either IEs, LD, or IPDA. Or, students could enter or IPDA and IEs or LD. Or could enter two separate IPDA tournaments.
LOCATION. The El Camino College address is 16007 Crenshaw Blvd., Torrance, CA 90506, right off the 405 freeway at the Crenshaw exit. For directions, visit http://www.elcamino.edu/about/directions.asp
The tournament headquarters will be SOCS 117. The Social Science (SOCS) building faces Redondo Beach Blvd., near the corner of Redondo Beach Blvd. and Crenshaw Blvd.
PARKING. Attendees should park in Lots J or K (Closest to the Social Science buildings). These are staff parking lots BUT you are allowed to park there on the weekend for free!
FOOD. Breakfast, lunch and snacks will be provided for judges on Saturday and Sunday; snacks and water will be provided for students. There are multiple close locations from which to purchase food.
RULES AND ELIGIBILITY. Generally, all events will follow their governing bodies’ rules. In NPDA, Wi-Fi and prep rooms will be provided, and the topic will be centrally announced. Group prep will be allowed, and flex time will be recognized. In IPDA, group prep will be allowed. A novice is defined as a competitor with no significant high school experience, is in his or her first two semesters of competition, who has not advanced to elimination rounds at more than two tournaments in NPDA, LD, or IPDA, or taken 1st, 2nd, or 3rd place twice in IEs. A junior competitor is one who has not competed for more than four semesters, and who has not advanced to elimination rounds in junior division at more than two tournaments in NPDA, LD, or IPDA. We adhere to the NPDA policy on gender/sexual harassment.
ELECTRONIC USE POLICY IN DEBATE. Electronic flowing is NOT allowed in NPDA or IPDA debate; it IS allowed in LD. ADA requests should go through the tournament.
AWARDS. Trophies will be awarded to 1st, 2nd, and 3rd/Gold, Silver, Bronze place winners in all events. Speaker awards will be given in NPDA for the top three speakers in each division. The top institutions in both 2- and 4-year divisions receive trophies. The PSCFA formula will be used to determine standings, and El Camino will be ineligible for sweeps. All awards will be announced at the awards ceremony on Sunday night.
All entries are due by 6:00pm on Tuesday, January 14, 2025. Changes can be made through Wednesday, January 15 at 6:00pm, at which time fees, including hired judge fees, will be set.
