2021 SCJFL Q3 Elementary Speech & Debate Online Tournament - The Cantrell Invitational
Greetings to all elementary school speech and debate clubs and schools! On Saturday, February 27th, 2021, we will be hosting the third elementary speech tournament of the 2020-2021 school year. We hope your school or organization will join us. We are dedicating this tournament to Mr. Danny Cantrell who has made Online Tournament possible about 1 year ago. Thank you Danny!
Entries:
All current SCJFL Elementary School Programs are invited to register.
We will close entries on Tues. February 23rd at noon, PST. All fees will be set at that time.
REMINDER: All students who have received a trophy in any event (regardless of what novice event they are applying to enter), are no longer eligible for a novice division. Additionally, any students who have participated in more than four tournaments are no longer eligible for the novice division.
Online Tournament Guidelines:
-All competitors are required to have a guardian on-screen during rounds unless they have turned in a waiver form. Judges will be instructed to require an adult guardian to be present for all competitors who haven’t agreed to a waiver. These students will not be allowed to stay in the room without the guardian (meaning, they must be present the entire time of the round).
-All participants (judges and competitors) are required to read the SCJFL Online Tournament Participation Best Practice document that is posted on the registration site.

For Speech/SPAR/Congress, each participating school or organization must supply 1 judge per 5 entries. For Public Forum, each participating school or organization must supply 1 judge per 2 entries. If you need to register judges but don’t know their names yet, please use your school name with a number to indicate the judges you will be providing (i.e. QD Learning judge 1; QD Learning judge 2; etc.) If your team is using place holders please be sure to update them to the actual name of the judge prior to the sign-up deadline.
IMPORTANT: All Judges must indicate whether they are available for the debate pattern, the speech pattern, or both. Covered judge means all rounds in that event, if a judge can only judge one round than that is only a portion of the required coverage, all rounds must be covered, meaning all judges in that event can not just sign up for round 2.
As per by-laws, all judge training is the responsibility of the school submitting their judges. We can still offer a brief refresher course but all judges should be expected to already know what they’re in for. Teams who supply grossly unprepared judges will be charged a nuisance fee of $50.
The fee for an uncovered judge is $20 and the fee for a judge being absent the day of the tournament is $100.
