Separate registration pages are set up for Congress/Parli/PF Quals (Feb. 28 and March 1) and IE Quals (March 7 and 8) This tournament is open only to SDIVSL member schools. All teams must be paid members of CHSSA (paid no later than Feb. 14 2014). Tournament Director: Gregg Osborn, League President (<a href=\"mailto:gosborn@helixcharter.net\">email</a>) School Address: 3557 Lancer Way, Carlsbad Parking: Tab Location:  Judges' Room: Qualifying Spots/Entry Limitations: Students who cannot attend the CHSSA State Tournament on April 25, 26, and 27 at James Enoch High School in Modesto are not eligible to compete at this tournament. Additionally, students who are not available to compete in all scheduled rounds of this tournament are not eligible to compete. Our league will qualify six (6) LD debaters and six (6) policy debate teams. A school may enter up to ten (10) students/teams in either of the debate events. Additional entries count against the ten (10) floating entries each school is allotted for the three weekends of the qualifying tournaments. Each student may enter only one (1) event for this weekend.  Be sure not to exceed any individual or school entry limits: No student may enter more than four (4) events total throughout the three weekends. Fees: $7.00 for each LD entry, $14.00 for each Policy entry. Make checks payable to SDIVSL. Fees are final as of 11:00 am, Saturday, March 1. All fees must be paid at that time (at Congress/Parli/PF Quals at LCC). One check for all three tournaments is preferred. Entry/Drop Deadlines: Entries for the debate tournament must be posted to www.forensicstournament.net no later than 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, March 1, 2014. Entries in all events are final and payable at that time. Judges: Each school is required to bring one judge for every four L.D. debaters, and one judge for every two Policy Teams. IMPORTANT: All judges are committed to remain one round PAST the elimination of their team's last competitor. Tournament Details: LD Topic: Resolved: Placing political conditions on humanitarian aid to foreign countries is unjust. Policy Topic: Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its economic engagement toward Cuba, Mexico or Venezuela. The first five rounds will operate on a double-elimination format. After a debater/team receives two losses, they will be eliminated from the tournament. After any preliminary round, if eight or fewer debaters/teams remain, the next round will be a quarterfinal round. If after five rounds there are more than eight debaters/teams remaining, the top eight debaters/teams will advance to quarterfinals. The winners of each debate will advance to semifinals. The winners of the semifinals round will advance to finals. LD/POLICY QUALS TOURNAMENT SCHEDULE Friday March 14 3:30 – 3:45 Registration (All schools must check in by 3:45) 4:00 Round I 6:00 Round II 8:00 Round III Saturday March 15 (tentative - break rounds may happen sooner) 9:00 Round IV 11:00 Round V of LD and quarterfinals of Policy 1:00  Quarterfinals of LD and semifinals of Policy 2:00  Semifinals of LD 3:00  Finals of LD and Policy 5:30 AWARDS FOR ALL THREE QUALIFIER TOURNAMENTS ASAP following awards - Sign-Off Meeting: After the awards ceremony following this tournament, all coaches must return to the tab room to sign off any students who have qualified for the State Tournament. All coaches need to attend this meeting even if you don’t have a student that is qualified outright. Each year, students who haven’t qualified outright shift up into a qualifying position because of other students’ shifting out of the event, since a student may only enter one individual event at the State Tournament. If the coach is not at the meeting to confirm a student’s attendance at the State Tournament, the students may be bypassed and excluded from State qualification. Note: If you sign a “No” on a student, that student MAY NOT later be added into that event if some problem arises with his or her participation in another event, such as Team Debate or Duo. If a student does not qualify outright in any event you still may only sign yes in one event. You must come to this meeting!
