<strong>IE/CONGRESS 2 TOURNAMENT ENTRY</strong>

<p>This tournament is open only to schools in the San Diego Imperial Valley Speech League

</p>
<p><strong>Tournament Director:</strong> Don Etheridge, VP of IEs

</p>
<p><strong>Directions:</strong> 13010 Paseo Lucido San Diego, California 92128</p>
<p>Coming on the I-15, turn off at Camino Del Norte and proceed to the East. The first light past the freeway entrance lights is Carmel Mountain/Right Side and Paseo Lucio/Left Side. You should turn LEFT on PASEO LUCIDO. The VERY NEXT LIGHT is AVENIDA VENUSTO - TURN RIGHT. First driveway on left (about 100 yards) is our student lot - please turn in there and park. Walk to the north end of that lot (toward the school). Take the left ramp that continues on straight to the North. You will cross the bus circle and walk into the school. There will be signs. </p>
<p><strong>Events: </strong></p>
<p><strong>Pattern A:</strong> IX, OO, OA, HI, TI, and Duo

<p><strong>Pattern B:</strong> NX, Imp, Expos, DI, OI, OPP, Congress
</p>
<p>Any event with 28 or more entries will break to a semi-final and final round. Those with less than 28 entries will run three rounds and a final round. (Congress will break to semi-finals if there are 56 or more entries)</p>
<p><strong>Entry Limitations:</strong> This tournament is open only to schools in the San Diego Imperial Valley Speech League. This tournament will feature a Novice division and a Varsity division in all events. A Novice competitor must have never competed in any high school speech or debate tournament in previous school years.</p>
<p>Students must compete in the same division for all events (cannot compete as a Novice in one event, and Varsity in another). Exception: If a Duo team is "mixed" (one Novice, one Varsity), that pair must compete at the Varsity level. However, the Novice partner may compete as a Novice in other events.</p>
<p>Each competitor may enter up to four events, with a maximum of two in any pattern. Students entered in Extemp or Congress may enter only that event in that pattern. Schools with students competing in Congress should submit a minimum of three (3) Congress bills as of (date).</p>
<p>Novices wishing to use manuscripts in prepared events (excludes IX, NX, and Impromptu) may do so without penalty; however, judges will be instructed to consider the use of scripts in their reason for decision in rankings.

<p><strong>Judges: </strong>Each school should bring 1 judge per 5 entries in the pattern in which they have the larger number of entries. Schools not meeting their judging commitment will be required to drop entries to match their available judges. Required number of judges must be present throughout the entire tournament.</p>

<p><strong>Entry Fees:</strong> $7 per I.E. entry, $14 for duo. Make checks payable to SDIVSL. Fees are due at registration.

<p>League dues of $60 are also payable at this time, if not previously paid (this is a one-time fee for the season, and is waived for first-year teams). 
</p>
<p>CHSSA dues are mandatory for ALL teams and are due to our Area Chairperson by December 1. Please access the payment form and iinstructions for payment by <a href=\"http://cahssa.org/yahoo_site_admin/assets/docs/Assessment2013.247170958.pdf\">clicking here</a>. <p><strong>Entry Deadline:</strong> Entries must be posted on www.forensicstournament.net by 5:00 p.m. on Friday, November 8. No new teams or students may add after the entry deadline. The only changes allowed after the entry deadline is dropping entries (see below).

<p><strong>Drops:</strong> Dropped entries will be accepted without charge until Wednesday, November 13, at 5:00 p.m. After that time, the website will be closed and entry fees will be final. Please email (donaldetheridge@vistausd.org) or call in (619-200-7439) your drops after the drop deadline, even as late as on your way to the tournament, to obviate excessive changes at the beginning of the tournament. When calling in or emailing drops, be sure to give the speaker’s name, event, and your school clearly.

<p><strong>Novice Observers:</strong> If Novice competitors are not prepared to compete, coaches are encouraged to bring them to this tournament to observe so they can learn the mechanics and etiquette of tournament competition.</p>
<p>Please advise your observers of the following guidelines:

<p>1. Enter rounds on time.

</p>
<p>2. Before entering a room, be sure no one is speaking.

</p>
<p>3. Stay in the round until its conclusion.

</p>
<p>4. Listen courteously to all speakers.
