Turn right off the exit, but stay in the left lane and make an immediate left onto 70th St. Continue on                    70th for several blocks. Turn left on University. Turn right on Yale, and veer left to enter the front parking lot. This lot will be very crowded until 3:15 or so. For bus parking, on                  Friday continue one block east on University to Lowell St.  and turn right. Pass the tennis courts, baseball fields and basketball courts, then turn right into the student parking lot           (corner of Lowell and Normal). <p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0.4em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0.5in; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 19px; text-indent: -0.5in; \"> <span style=\"margin-top: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; \">            From the south, take a northbound freeway to 94 East. Exit at Massachusetts Ave. Turn right off the exit. Turn right on Waite, then left on Murray Hill Road. Murray Hill Road turns into Yale - continue down Yale. Turn right at the stop sign toward the front parking lot. This entrance will be blocked until about 3:15 pm.  To access the student parking lot, at the top of Murray Hill Road, turn right onto Orien, then left into the student parking lot. <p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"margin-top: 0.4em; margin-right: 0px; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-left: 0.5in; padding-top: 0px; padding-right: 0px; padding-bottom: 0px; padding-left: 0px; line-height: 19px; text-indent: -0.5in; \">   Events: Policy Debate, LD Debate, Parliamentary Debate, Public Forum Debate Topics:       Policy – Resolved: The United States federal government should substantially increase its transportation infrastructure investment in the United States.       LD – Resolved: The United States ought to extend to non-citizens accused of terrorism the same constitutional due process protections it grants to citizens.       Public Forum – Resolved: Developed countires have a moral obligation to mitigate the effects of climate change.       Parliamentary - schools competing in Parli must submit 3 resolutions for consideration; 1 fact, 1 value, and 1 policy. (First year teams are exempt from this requirement)   Entry Limitations: This tournament is open only to schools in the San Diego Imperial Valley Speech League. This tournament will feature a Novice division and a Varsity division in all events. Each competitor may enter one event.           In order to be eligible for the Novice division, debaters must meet the following criteria:           Public Forum - must not have competed in any high school speech or debate tournament in previous school years           Parliamentary - must not have competed in any high school speech or debate tournament in previous school years.           Policy - must not have competed in any high school debate tournament in previous school years (speech or congress participation ok)           Lincoln-Douglas - must not have competed in any high school debate tournament in previous school years (speech or congress participation ok)           In cases where partners are "mixed" (one Novice, one Varsity), that pair must compete at the Varsity level. Judges: Each school is required to bring 1 judge for every two debate teams, and 1 judge for every 4 LD debaters. Schools not meeting their judging commitment at all times during the tournament will be required to drop uncovered entries. Required number of judges must be present throughout the entire tournament. Entry Fees: $16 per team in Policy, Parliamentary, and Public Forum Debate; $8 per LD entry. Make checks payable to SDIVSL. Entry Deadline: Entries must be posted on www.forensicstournament.net by 5:00 p.m. on Monday, October 22. No new teams or students may add after the entry deadline. The only changes allowed after the entry deadline is dropping entries (see below). Drops: Dropped entries will be accepted without charge until Wednesday, October 24, at 5:00 p.m. After that time, the website will be closed and entry fees will be final. Please email (melissa.barry@sduhsd.net) or call in/text (760-936-3796) your drops after the drop deadline, even as late as on your way to the tournament, to obviate excessive changes at the beginning of the tournament. When calling in or emailing drops, be sure to give the speaker’s name, event, and your school clearly. Novice Observers: Coaches are encouraged to bring Novice observers to this tournament if they are not prepared to compete, so they can learn the mechanics and etiquette of tournament competition.
