Welcome to the 2020 1st Quarter SCJFL Debate Tournament hosted by Nova 42 Academy at our secret underground online technology center in Pasadena California. The tournament will be held ONLINE on October 24th, 2020

Events:
Lincoln-Douglas Debate: (2020 Sept/Oct topic) Resolved: In a democracy, voting ought to be compulsory.


Policy Debate: Resolved: Resolved: The United States federal government should enact substantial criminal justice reform in the United States in one or more of the following: forensic science, policing, sentencing.


Public Forum Debate: (2020 Sept/Oct topic) Resolved: The United States federal government should enact the Medicare-For-All Act of 2019.

Big Questions: Resolved: Mathematics was discovered, not invented.

     Worlds School Debate:    Topics:  1st Round - This House would seek to actively remove the tax exempt status from religious institutions that engage in political campaign activity.  2nd Round -  This House regrets the rise of “cancel culture.”   3rd Round - Impromptu topic (to be announced before round)

Fees:
$10 per student entry (Public Forum & Policy are $20, Worlds is $30)
Please note that payment for this tournament must be made through the TOURNAMENT FEES tab on the left side of the registration page (see screenshot below).  The tournament will not accept checks or payments through Venmo or Zelle.
Changes or drops after Tues. October 20th, 2020 at 5pm, PST will be charged a $10 nuisance fee.
$20/$75 uncovered judge fee (see below).

Judging Requirements:
Each participating school or organization is being asked to supply 1 judge per 2 entries for Debate and 1 judge for every 7 entries in Congress. Judging names and cell phone numbers should be submitted at the time of registration. If you need to register judges but don’t know their names yet, please use your school name with a number to indicate the judges you will be providing (i.e. Nova judge 1; Nova judge 2; etc.). $20 uncovered judge fee for Congress.  $75 uncovered judge fee for Debate. 
Hired that do not conflict with any team/school should be noted so that they can be used as a clean judge for all competitors.

League Fees:
Teams will need to pay league fees, give proof of insurance, and signed up a tab staff volunteer for future tournaments or they will not be eligible for this tournament.  Please contact league treasurer Stella Gu to bring your account current: sguus68@gmail.com.
