December 30, 2021

Hello Forensic Friends.

It is my pleasure to invite you to the 2022 Missouri Association of Forensic Activities (MAFA) Championship Tournament. This is the Missouri State Tournament, but we also welcome our friends from other states. Please consider joining us virtually at Park University, February 12-13 for two days of comprehensive forensic education and competition.  This tournament has been moved online to allow broader participation.

While the invitation outlines the specifics of the tournament, highlights include…

·       Four rounds of debate in three formats with novice divisions where entries warrant

·       A full slate of AFA-NIET individual events

·       Awards for all elimination round competitors in all events and

·       Affordable fees

As has become our tradition, the top Missouri student in each event will receive a special award as the State Champion in that event. We will award individual event, debate, and combined sweepstakes for both the overall tournament, as well as entry-based divisions; we will also recognize the top school in quality performance. We also award a top forensicator award to our top students who participate in both individual events and debate. Additionally, the top two Missouri students in oratory will earn a trip to the Interstate Oratorical Contest.

Beyond student and school recognition, we encourage you to nominate individuals for the two awards we present annually to professionals in our activity—Coach of the Year Award and Distinguished Service Award. Information for each of these awards is included in this invitation.

This year’s tournament will feature an engagement with MAFA’s advocacy project—Bringing books to prison inmates via the organization Missouri Prison Books (https://missouriprisonbooks.org/donate-books). This project is intended to help prisoners in Missouri receive reading materials.  We encourage a cash donation to help defray the costs of mailing books to prisioners.

Tournament entries are to be made on Forensictournament.net. Entries should be made by no later than 5:00pm Monday, February  7th. Fees will be assessed at 5:00 Tuesday, February 8th Detailed and updated tournament information will be emailed with confirmations once fees are assessed Tuesday night.

On behalf of MAFA and its officers, I hope to see you on Park University’s campus in February!

Sincerely,

Lora Cohn

President, Missouri Association of Forensic Activities
