LAUREL LOCOMOTIVE INVITATIONAL TOURNAMENT 12/14/19

      

Laurel High School cordially invites you to the Laurel High School Speech, Drama and Debate Tournament on Saturday, December 14, 2019. Debate and Drama preliminary rounds will take place at Laurel Middle School (725 Washington Ave, Laurel MT 59044) and Speech preliminary round and all FINAL rounds will be at Laurel High School (203 E. 8th St, Laurel MT 59044).

 

REGISTRATION:

 

Registration will be at the Laurel High School main office between 7:00 AM and 8:00 AM. An entry fee of $5.00 will be charged for each participant. Registration will take place on ForensicsTournament.net: https://forensicstournament.net/LocomotiveInvitational/19 Registration will close on Friday, December 6th at 6:00pm. Drops will be allowed via forensicstournament.net until Tuesday the 10th. After that, email drops to Liz_Schwartz@laurel.k12.mt.us.

 

Each school may enter up to three entries in each event. Double entry is allowed. A drop fee of $5.00 will be assessed for each contestant dropped after 4:00pm on Friday Dec 13th. If you have drops the morning of the tournament, please call/ text Liz at 406-546-4798.

 

MHSA Rules:

 

ALL MHSA rules will be enforced at this tournament.

 

FOOD

 

Concessions will be available at the high school. We are working on getting concession at the middle school too, but so far do not have a firm commitment. There are also several fast food places close to the school. Lunch will be provided in the hospitality room for judges, coaches and drivers.

 

COMPETITION SITE:         

 

Debate and drama preliminary rounds will be at Laurel Middle School (two blocks from high school) and speech preliminary rounds will be at the high school. All final rounds will be held at Laurel High School. There will be a commons area for students. Students should be in the designated commons area when not in rounds. Remember contestants may not be in competition rooms unless a judge or coach is present. At the end of the tournament, please ask your students to pick up their area. The awards assembly will be in the high school auditorium at approximately 5:00 pm.

All events will be conducted in accordance to the MHSA Handbook.

LD topic will be the December topic:

 

LD: Resolved: The United States ought to eliminate subsidies for fossil fuels.

 

Public Forum: Resolved: The benefits of the United States federal government’s use of offensive cyber operations outweigh the harms.
