Welcome to the home page for the 2017 Dusty Roads Invitational tournament hosted by Capital High on Dec 1-2, 2017 for High School students.

You are cordially invited to attend the Dusty Roads Invitational Speech Tournament December 1st and 2nd, 2017.  CARROLL COLLEGE will be hosting the annual Debate Tournament of Champions the same weekend. Invitation and information for that Tournament are available by contacting Brent Northup, Carrol College Head Coach (bnorthup@carroll.edu.)  YOU MUST REGISTER SEPERATELY FOR HELENA DUSTY ROADS SPEECH TOURNAMENT AND CARROLL DEBATE TOURNAMENT OF CHAMPIONS.

All Speech events and Legislative Debate will be held at Capital High School (100 Valley Drive).

Entry Deadline: Preliminary registration is due no later than 4:00pm on Monday, November 20th. All entries must be entered at http://www.forensicstournament.net/DustyRoadsSpeechTournament/17. Adds will be accepted until Monday, November 27th at 5pm. Drops and name changes to registration will be accepted electronically on the website until Thursday, November 30th at NOON. There will be no penalty fee for drops or changes up to Thursday, November 30th at NOON. Any changes after this deadline must be submitted by email to chloe.bjorklund.smith@gmail.com. Any changes on Friday, December 1st must be submitted by phone or text to Chloe Smith at 406-570-6065.

Fees: Each entry will be charged $5.00 (the charge will be $10 for duo). Each school will also be charged a $20 school fee. Any changes to your registration after Thursday, November 30th at Noon will be assessed a $5.00 penalty; Any changes on Friday, December 1st will be assessed a $20.00 penalty.

Entries: Schools may enter up to 4 entries in each event.

Tab Room/Draw: Please email chloe.bjorklund.smith@gmail.com and let us know which of your coaches will be attending the Speech Tournament and their tabbing preferences. Please also nominate at least one coach to serve in extemp draw.  

Concessions will be available to students. If you would like to arrange for group billing, please let me know. We are happy to track your students’ purchases and invoice you for the total amount. There will be a hospitality room provided for coaches and drivers.

Student area: At the request of Administration, we must require all students to utilize the cafeteria as the student area. We will not allow hallways, stairwells, or other spaces to be used as lounge areas. Please be respectful of this and ask your students to use the cafeteria between rounds.

Legislative Debate Topics: Foreign: Stateless Peoples, Domestic: Disaster Relief

Rules: All events will be conducted according to the AA rules of the 2017-2018 MHSA Handbook.

Program Oral Interpretation: We will host Program Oral Interpretation at this tournament. POI will be conducted according to National Speech and Debate Association rules with MHSA style ballots. Program Oral Interpretation WILL count toward School Sweepstakes points with the same points allocated for POI as other IE events.
