The University of Alaska's Seawolf Debate Program is pleased to offer your students a chance to compete at the inaugural Alaska Online Individuals IPDA tournament.  We're choosing to use the Individuals IPDA format to maximize flexibility and because we've found IPDA to be a happy medium between a number of different formats.

Here's what you need to know:

1. For those of you who--like Alaska--haven't spent much time with IPDA, you'll find a wealth of resources available at the organization's site.  I also recommend that you check out this video of an IPDA round.  I'll say this: we competed in IPDA for the first time at Jim Hanson's event a couple of weeks ago and found it to be welcoming, familiar, well-judged and a very easy transition for our folks used to doing BP.  I think the same will be true for those in other formats.
2. Time limits will be 30 minutes prep (to include topic strike time), then 5-2-6-2-3-5-3 with 1 minute prep before each speech. (Full format outline included below)
3. We'll use Yaatly as our online tournament venue.  If you haven't yet, you should read through their user guides and set up an account for your organization on Yaatly.
4. Registration fees will be $35 per debater, serving only to cover our costs. Invoices will be sent after the tournament; payment must be made by credit card.
5. Debaters must be graduate or undergraduate students enrolled in a least 6 credits for the current semester.
6. Judges must possess a bachelor's degree or have exhausted their competitive eligibility with no plans to return to competition. YOU MUST PROVIDE AN EMAIL ADDRESS &/or A NUMBER FOR TEXTING FOR EVERY JUDGE TO RECEIVE EBALLOTS. You may do so by updating your judge roster available under your school's settings
7. We will have only one division (Open) but will track Novice competitors for a separate set of elimination rounds if entries warrant. A Novice is a debater in their first year of debating AT ANY LEVEL.
8. Your registration of debaters will be limited to the number of judges you can provide.  You'll be allowed to enter two debaters for every one judge who is available throughout the entire tournament.  Of course, we'll prioritize releasing judges who no longer have students competing in prelims on Sunday.

Topic Submission

All registered schools are asked to submit 5 suggested topics via our Topic Submission Form. We encourage you to ask your debaters to suggest topics. We reserve the right to edit submitted topics and to not use some or all submitted topics. Sumbitted topics will be curated to produce topic sets for each round. Topics are due by midnight Thursday, April 16.
