Welcome to the home page for the 2016 Talk Hawk Invitational tournament hosted by Las Positas College on Feb 6, 2016 for College students.
Status: Tournament Completed

The Freshman/Sophomore class from Las Positas College cordially invites you to: SPEECH PROM

(The 8th annual Talk Hawk Invitational) February the 6th, 2016

You will find the usual events lined up for your pleasure with the same interesting twists that make the Talk Hawk Invitational unique.

First and foremost, ALL INTERPRETATION EVENTS WILL BE BOOK OPTIONAL where judges are not to penalize students for performing without a script in hand.

ŸThe 1st Place Open Winners in each event will WIN A CASH PAYOUT. The exact amount of the payout will be dependent upon tournament and entry size. In some years 1st place winners received $120! Are you sure you want to “rest” your best events?!

ŸThere will be a Supplemental Event at this year’s tournament: Prom Night Predicaments. Contestants will be given a scenario that is typical or atypical of a prom night conversation. For example “It’s the last dance of the night and your date tells you they are going home with someone else. You attempt to talk them out of it. Your response must include references to a disco ball, hoop skirts, and a punch bowl.” A total time of 5 minutes will be allotted, for prep and speaking. See Event Descriptions for specific details.

ŸContestants in the final round of Duo Interpretation will be permitted to adorn any thematic attire desirable (Translation: they’re allowed to wear costumes!).

ŸLas Positas College is equipped with smart classrooms. Competitors in Informative, Communication Analysis, After Dinner, and Persuasive Speaking are allowed to use PowerPoint for their visual aids. (As in all situations that require technology for visual aids: have a backup plan)

Since this is speech prom, we will be having a dance before the awards ceremony. We highly encourage prom attire for this awards ceremony. Do you still have that prom dress, bride’s maid dress, or bow tie collecting dust in your closet? Well dust it off and PUT IT ON!

We also will be able to provide day care for any little ones that need looking after while mommy and daddy are busy at the tournament. We encourage you to bring your kids dressed in their best ball attire. We would love them to join the dance.
