Forensic Friends

Oakton Community College cordially invites you to attend our FIRST  annual “OCC Owl Annual”  Novice Speech and Debate Tournament on Saturday, February 1st, 2019. THIS IS A THEMED TOURNAMENT with the theme this year being MEMES AND VINES! Come dressed as your favorite meme or vine! We offer open and novice (when warranted) competition in all NFA/AFA events, and IPDA & BP Debate … and the best part is that if you enter BP, those slots will be free because... let’s try something new! Instructions are below.  PLUS there will be an experimental/wildcard category of SLAM POETRY. We MAY be swinging with our friends at another regional CC but that’s TBD. Meanwhile, we look forward to seeing all of you there!

Tournament Features

  • Two preliminary rounds and finals of competition in All Phi Rho Pi events.

  • BRITISH PARLIAMENTARY  Debate. Try BP debate - no entry fees!

  • SLAM POETRY (SP) as our wildcard event where students from Chicago Public School’s Young Chicago Authors will feature select Louder Than a Bomb High School Slam Poets who will judge (on a scale of 1-10) a round of and perform alongside the two highest ranked collegiate competitors while a DJ spins tracks in the back for that and for awards!

  • Team Sweepstakes awards for the top three teams per division plus debate Team Sweeps.

  • Quadrathon competition for individual sweepstakes.

  • Awards for the top six finalists and top four in Quadrathon.

  • Unlimited team entry per event & students may triple enter per flight!

We reserve the right to organize sections to make use of all judges; debate judges for all formats will be combined into one pool. Registration begins at 7:00 am. on Saturday on the DES PLAINES Campus. World’s Debate round I topic announcement begins at 7:40 am., Extemp. draw at 9:00 am. and IE Rounds at 9:30 am. Entries are accepted through ForensicsTournament.net by Tuesday, January 28th before 5:00 pm. Please join us as we host our first ever competition in Forensics & Debate.
